Abstract art you can fall into.

Horizons Collection

My Horizons series is a group of paintings done intuitively with only a horizon in mind and no plan. The horizon is something that we admire from a distance, but can never reach. It simultaneously gives us hope and reminds us to live in the moment. The resulting works have reminded me of peaceful natural landscapes that bring a sense of both contentment and wistfulness.

Coming Soon…

I’m still working on a series I’m calling Dreamscapes which encompasses feelings of whimsy and coziness paired with tranquil imagery.

My recently released Horizons series will also be coming with some limited edition prints.

Finally, I’m working on a series which are representations of real world homes and buildings with natural details and woven throughout. These will be available as limited edition prints.

About my process

I create abstract work to express my inner emotions and bring me back to places that spark feelings of freedom and a connection to nature. My work is a combination of an idea in my head and what speaks to me once the paint is on the surface. I start with a bright base layer that can show through in the end, sometimes exposing a bit of raw material. If the original inspiration or idea is a shape, I sketch often using wax crayon, then I go over it with layers of paint until I see something form organically. I define deeper what I'm seeing with added layers staying very loose with drips, splashes and speckles. Sometimes the original shape disappears completely and other times it draws attention. I add collage to create whimsical details or structure which is only seen on close inspection. I can also add curved or gestured lines to draw the eye around the piece and create some unexpected joy. When I’m not sure what to do, sometimes I dance with the work to find the rhythm of it. That being said, my most important step is to stare at the work without working on it at all and let it speak to me. Often, I need to leave it for multiple days before it calls me back and to conclusion.
